About the Tenkaichi Programmer Contest
The Tenkaichi Programmer Contest, an event aimed at students, was first held by KLab and AtCoder in 2009 with subsequent events held in 2012 and 2013. While most programming contests are typically held online and in English, KLab’s vision for the world of future programming has inspired the company to create a real-life contest held primarily in Japanese. This provides an exciting opportunity for young programmers to come together face-to-face to test their skills and network with other talented engineers.
The Tenkaichi Programmer Contest features two preliminary rounds held online. The championship that follows is held in Roppongi, a hot spot for Tokyo’s burgeoning IT industry. Anyone with an AtCoder account is allowed to participate in the preliminary round, making the application process easy for first-time participants joining the event.* In order to make the contest more challenging for experienced programmers, KLab has enlisted the help of AtCoder**, a professional programming contest sponsor. The company will also assist with contest judging, content creation, and problem review.
* Entrants must fulfill the participation requirements for the Championships in order to take part in the final round.
** AtCoder (http://atcoder.co.jp/) is an event hosting company that holds programming contests in Japanese. The company is led by Naohiro Takahashi, winner of the first Tenkaichi Programmer Contest.
KLab is constantly looking for ways to offer more fun and challenging programming contests. The company has also put out a call for students and aspiring programmers to join in the contest in order to make this year’s event the biggest and best yet.
About Programming Contests
Programming contests give computer engineers a chance to test their skills in competitions based on specific programming themes. These competitions may include a challenge based on a particular computer algorithm or data structure, in which participants must create a program that solves the given problem based on certain set of conditions applicable to that contest. In the Tenkaichi Programmer Contest, points are awarded based on the accuracy of the participant’s answers and the time it takes them to submit their code. The programmer with the highest number of points is declared the winner.
